My Review
4.0 Stars!

This futuristic Sci-fy book is a mixture of Social Media and Virtual Reality meshed together and hard wired through your head via a chip or a hololens. Add to it the politics of Big corporation running countries and taking away free speech and you have quite a political thriller mixed with fantasy! The idea of people disappearing into an alternate universe or simply because they are an inconvenient grazer makes you really work your brain and gets you to thinking of what things could look like in a future with really freaky tech devices.

When reading this book there is a bit of a learning curb with the language used as the author's have created a lot of new words to fit with their futuristic story line. However once you get used to that and move on to the story line, there is a great story here!

I loved most of the characters, the primary ones being well developed and very fun. The story kept me intrigued until the end and the idea of the advanced technology and the mystery of it all kept me turning the pages!

Excerpt:

Gravity is a convention in SIM.  Otherwise you’d puke.  Distance? That’s optional.

High-voltage energy escalated as avatars shifted from one group of friends at the noLine to another.  Sometimes instantly.  Warp speed was the preferred method of transference, but way overplayed.  The black Madonna, the one with the stars of the cosmos shimmering in her bare breasts, wore the music of the spheres like a halo.  She rose like darkness and cast her shadow as she traveled.  Way fuKool.   With an avatar like that you could get past the bouncers.  Holding a ticket wasn’t enough.  You couldn’t just buy your way into this phantasmagorical fabFreak Switch hauteMode mecca.  You had to be inducted.

About the Author's:
Mars:
Mars was born in Poona, India. His father was a biologist, and research grants took his family to Mexico City, Silicone Valley, Stockholm, and finally New York City.  After graduating from the Bronx High School of Science, Mars traveled around Europe and spent time in London and Prague.  He finished his undergraduate studies at Columbia College, with a major in art history and a minor in physics, and then got a Masters degree at Columbia’s Graduate School of Architecture.  Mars then spent many years doing architecture as a day job and playing electric guitar (for The Shameless Sycophants, Dark Blue and Linoleum Blownapart) at night, in clubs ranging from CBGB’s to the Knitting factory.  Mars holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and an Elder Brother rank in Tiger Claw Kung Fu. Mars Dumont speaks three languages: Czech, Spanish and English.  Remaining creative is, as far as Mars is concerned, the most important thing in life.

Venus:
Venus’ unique style took form in New York City with summers on Block Island under the supervision of her advertising mad man art director father and her gourmet cook mother. Their home was a gathering place for artists and intellectuals.  As a child she wrote and illustrated her own books. Venus’ affinity for art and design eventually took her to Italy where she studied for a number of years. Although she has lived and worked as a designer in New York City for most of her adult life, she still retains close ties with friends in Florence and a love of everything Italian.  Venus has a soft spot for Italian style anarchy and humanist centered dissidents.  She also likes to dabble in the mysteries of Astrology and Tarot and draws on the archetypes to develop the characters in her books.

My Review!
4.5 Stars

Remy is a sassy, outspoken girl that loves to race cars and her dream is to be a US sponsored race car driver. A dream that is treading rocky water when the owner of the Race track in the Cayman Islands ends up dead and she ends up at the top of of the suspect list. Not only does she have to fight to prove her innocence, the hot doctor Jackson, who gets put in charge of the making sure the racers are fit to drive proves to be her biggest challenge of them all. Jackson is not her usual type of guy, but from the moment she meets him she is smitten.

This is a fun, fast paced mystery with just enough romance to make it a fantastic read! The ending and who was behind it all caught me by surprise and made the story even better by not being able to guess who it was.

I read that this is the second book in the series, but Deadly Race also read very well as a stand alone book!

deadly race  Will Remy achieve her car racing dreams or will an obsessed fan stop her?

Race car driver Remy Borden likes fast things: bikes, cars, and men. Her plans to become the first woman from the Cayman Islands to race internationally gets sidetracked when she's injured and pulled from the final race because of a fiery confrontation with another driver. Life goes from bad to worse when the racetrack owner is killed and she's suspect number one because his death puts her back in the race. But racing again proves difficult when Dr. Jackson Wilson insists she stop racing until she heals, making her wonder if his 'doctor's orders' don't have ulterior motives-the racetrack owner was his friend. She and Jackson search for the truth behind the murder when accidents start happening at the racetrack, and an adoring fan gets too close. Soon the simmering attraction between her and Jackson boils over, forcing her to admit Jackson makes her think of a life beyond racing. Please visit CLP Blog Tours for all the tour stops!

Review! Alien Love By Stan Schatt

May 26, 2015

Alien Love
By Stan Schatt

My Review 4.0 Stars!

Alien Love is a thought provoking action packed thriller! From the very first chapter it will draw you in and have you plowing through the mystery of whether there are Alien on our planet.

The author draws you in with the mystery around it all and keeps you reading with all the twists and turns of the story. The character's are well created and it really leaves you thinking you could be reading a true conspiracy theory.

While the author delves behind the scene's of the world of Astronauts there is no doubt that politics play a huge role in this action packed conspiracy theory book. Add to that the Sci-fy side of it all and you have a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.

Excerpt:

He watched as the alien bent over Cassandra and placed what looked like a salt shaker over the wound. He saw something flash and realized Mark was cauterizing it. The blood stopped, but Cassandra’s face was white, and now her breaths came in gasps.
“She’s lost too much blood,” Mark said.
“Let’s give her a transfusion. You can use my blood if you need it.”
“You don’t understand. My blood will not help her now and your human blood would be toxic. There’s nothing I can do.”
“You can’t just let her die! There has to be something you can do. Can’t you send her back to where you came from? You must have hospitals there!”
Mark shook his head. “That won’t work. She couldn’t survive the trip; she has very little time left even with her enhanced processes.”
“What do you mean?” The words meant nothing to Jack.
“I can’t explain. I don’t have the words. She will be fine.”
“How can you say that? She’s not going to be fine. You just told me she’s dying!”
Mark’s facial expression didn’t change. He looked down at Cassandra. Jack noticed her breathing had stopped. He reached down to give her mouth-to-mouth, but Mark put a hand on his shoulder to stop him.
“She’s dead. There really is nothing you can do.”
“You don’t seem that concerned. What did you mean everything’s fine?”
“She is fine now. If you don’t believe me, you can go where she is and ask her yourself.”
Time stopped for Jack. He stared at the alien while he tried to digest his words.
“You’re asking me if I want to die in order to see Cassandra?”
The alien shook his head, but he did so as if the gesture wasn’t very natural for him. “You will be able to talk with her, but you will also be able to come back here. This is where you belong. It is not your time yet.”
Jack studied the alien. What did he really know about him? Could he trust him? He weighed all that against the possibility of seeing Cassandra again and realized it wasn’t much of a decision.
“What do I have to do?”
“Come back in one hour. I must send Cassandra’s body back for disposal first. Then I will prepare what is necessary for your trip.”

Review! The Keys to the Watchmen By Kathleen C. Perrin

THE KEYS OF THE WATCHMEN
By Kathleen C. Perrin

My Review 4.0 stars!

Kateleen is an anger teen sent to France to get to know the woman who stole her father away-her stepmom. Little does she know her trip to Fance, more specifically to Mont Saint Michel is her destiny and she will play a major part in the war of good and bad.

While touring Mont Saint Michel, Kateleen starts experiencing crazy stuff, and when she is approached by a strangely dressed man with a medallion it's as if everything starts moving all in the direction of where she is to be, or should I say when.

Kateleen finds herself after fleeing from danger and ending up in the basement of the abbey back in the 15th century where Mont Saint Michel is fighting off English armies and the inhabitants of the island are literally starving. What troubles her even more is that she is told she is their only hope.

This is a fantastically weaved story with a lot of history mixed in. Kateleen's story as a Watchmen is one you will not forget once you have read it!

About the book:

keysbanner
Katelyn Michaels plans on hating every moment of her visit to Mont Saint Michel with her father’s new French wife. Once there, she is confused when she experiences sensations of déjà vu and hears voices as she and her younger brother explore the medieval village and abbey. When the oddly-dressed but alluring Nicolas slips Katelyn a strange medallion, she is whisked back through time with him to the 15th century where her Watchmen hosts tell her she is the only hope to save Mont Saint Michel from the invading English armies. Even worse, she learns those armies are led by a fallen angel intent on learning the mount’s closely-guarded secret. Katelyn is torn by feelings of anger at being taken back in time, inadequacy at finding a modern solution for a medieval problem, and responsibility for the mount’s starving inhabitants. She is also perturbed by her surprising attraction to the ill-tempered Nicolas. Will she stay to learn why she was chosen by the Archangel Michael and find a way to save his mount?

Swings

By Corbin Lewars

About the Book!
After attending three new mom groups, only to be banned for eating Cheetos (not organic!) and uttering the occasional swear word, Sadie Walker questions why she is trying so hard to fit in. While sitting in another dingy community center playroom full of squealing babies and new moms enthusiastically discussing homemade organic baby food, Sadie meets John, a handsome, vivacious dad. They quickly form a friendship and Sadie finally finds an adult outlet. John soon becomes a lifeline and she looks to him for advice and support, and confides in him about her strained marriage and career as a copywriter. Sadie begins to have sexual fantasies about John. Those fantasies turn into opportunity when he tells her he’s in an open marriage. As Sadie contemplates how far is too far in regards to her friendship with John, she must also question herself, her marriage, an d her life. Will swinging with John improve that life, or destroy it?

Excerpt:

I’ve never seen so many boobs and baldheads in my life. And the noise is deafening! About twenty babies are squealing while their moms attempt to talk to one another. The way bodies are crawling, rolling, and lurching all over the dingy carpet reminds me of a wrestling match gone awry. This is a nightmare. I’m out of here, I mutter to myself. My three-month-old son squirms in his sling and smiles up at me expectantly. “Really, buddy?” I ask him. “Don’t you remember how bored we were at the last group?”
From the looks of it, this group is bound to be the same as the other three Seattle moms groups I’ve tried. Women in their early thirties are sprawled out on the floor, wearing yoga pants and ponytails, with strained smiles on their faces. The smile is supposed to convey, “It’s fun getting puked on and singing nursery rhymes,” but really I think they look tired and stressed. They definitely aren’t having fun. I understand the tired part, but maybe I’m just naïve about the stressed part because I don’t think parenting is that complicated. Hell, my mom probably just placed me in my lead-paint crib while she smoked and drank martinis with her friends, and I turned out all right. I don’t understand why everyone in the north end of Seattle seems to feel the need to read twenty parenting books and obsess about whether they are doing it “right.” What’s right? As far as I can tell, what’s right for Spencer is a lot of nursing and napping and the occasional roll around the floor.
“Well, I guess we may as well make the best of it, right?” I say as I join some other boobs in the corner discussing the merits of various strollers. “What kind of jogger do you have?” one woman asks me.
“Huh?” is my ineloquent response. “Sorry, I’m so tired I have a hard time formulating complete sentences these days.”
The women giggle and give me knowing nods. I take this as a sign to continue and start babbling. “Do you guys ever fantasize about checking into a hotel, by yourself, and staying there for a week? My favorite is imagining the clean crisp sheets and firm bed at the W downtown, but these days I’d even settle for one of the sleazy places on Aurora. I get so excited thinking about room service and how no one would wake me up in the middle of the night to nurse.”
I laugh at how pathetic it is that my hotel fantasies now revolve around sleep rather than having sex, but see I’ve lost my audience. Their quick change of topic tells me the mention of wanting to escape my family was taboo enough, so I better not ostracize myself further by asking them about their favorite sex toys. I sigh once again and think, Spence and I should have gone out to breakfast instead.
I try to feign interest in the great stroller debate but am distracted when a man enters the room. We don’t see much of the opposite sex at mommy groups, so he’s an anomaly.Add that he’s nicely dressed and carrying an adorable daughter, who’s wearing a jean jacket, faux leopard hat and huge grin on her face, and I’m surprised the whole room isn’t staring at him. He seems at ease, greets a few women with a smile and a nod, and then joins a group in the corner. He places his daughter into an Exersaucer, and she rides that thing like a bucking bronco.
He grins and laughs with his baby and it’s all I can do to not run over to him and say, “Take me with you! I’m dying of boredom!” It helps that he has that dark sultry look I love. I feel guilty for a moment thinking about my husband, Kyle, who is fair and not sultry, but then think, “Shit! The Church of Moms is getting to me, and I’m starting to feel guilty about everything—including my thoughts! I’m so screwed!” Then I laugh because the irony is I’m rarely screwed and that’s why I’m drooling over this man. The most Kyle and I can accomplish is a quickie, and that’s not very satisfying. Guilt be damned: it’s been a while since I’ve seen an attractive man, and fantasizing about him will certainly be more interesting than stroller talk.
He’s laughing along with his daughter, and they seem to be a party in and of themselves. It’s not that he’s giving the other moms the cold shoulder, but it seems more as if he’s so captivated by his daughter’s antics that he doesn’t even notice the rest of us.
Finally, the facilitator announces the meeting is over and closes with a song about bouncy wagons. I bounce Spencer on my knees along with the song and he laughs and drools all over my legs. I wish I were so easily entertained. Spence breaks out into a huge grin at the mere sight of me. If I lift my shirt, he nearly pees himself with joy.
I start gathering my belongings to leave when I hear, “Want to get a cup of coffee?” I turn to see sexy man standing next to me. He continues, “Several of us go across the street after the meeting, and you’re welcome to join us.”

Review!! Macyn's Letter By S.L. Stacker

May 21, 2015

Macyn's Letter
S.L. Stacker

My Review!
4.0 stars!

A story of survival and coming back stronger and better despite the odds against you! Macyn should have been exempt from trouble in her life after her horrific car accident, not to mention her husband caused it because he was busy behind getting some action driving down the road. (Serious Karma for that man there!)

But Macyn’s trouble does not end there, she finds herself in danger and her friends and family threatened, but instead of curling up into a ball and hiding from it, she takes action!

And action is what you will find in this story, it is constantly moving and things are constantly happening.

I also want to note the slow but serious romance that buds between Macyn and her P.I. partner Devon....I say slow because he truly doesn't pursue anything during the first 9 years after the car accident and her husband's death. It's a sweet romance that you can tell they were friends first before anything else came to be. It add's to the story and really gives you something extra to enjoy while you read Macyn's story.

And! Like any good first book in a series, Macyn's Letter leaves you with a cliffhanger and hungering for book two! I am looking forward to what S.L. Stacker has in store for Macyn next!

Review! Alice's Portrait By Juliette Harper

May 15, 2015

Alice's Portrait
By Juliette Harper

My Review 4.5 Stars!!
Alice's Portrait is the 3rd book in the Lockwood Legacy Series. This book spends a lot of time with the girls, Jenny more then the other's working out what it the Lockwood Legacy means. Jenny seems almost haunted by what her place in the world and the Lockwood family truly means. Almost as if she is working out how she really fits in. She forces herself to work through the mysteries of her father's past and the secrets that are literally waiting to surface.

The Lockwood girls truly seem to find themselves after their father's death and instead of allowing his death and their past destroy them and tear them apart it brings them together and allows them to create the family they were robbed of for most of their lives.

The mystery behind Alice's Portrait simply adds to the story, creating a book that you won't want to end and most definitely won't want to put down!

About the Book:
A year after Kate, Jenny, and Mandy Lockwood inherit The Rocking L, the sisters try to concentrate on their collective and individual futures. In the previous book in The Lockwood Legacy series, Baxter’s Draw, the women made startling discoveries about their father’s secrets, but are mistaken in their belief that everything has now come to light. In Alice’s Portrait, the ghosts of Langston Lockwood’s past once again confront his daughters, forcing them to re-evaluate their understanding of their father and of what it means to be a Lockwood.

About the Author:
Juliette Harper is the pen name used by the writing team of Patricia Pauletti and Rana K. Williamson. Like the characters of their debut series, The Lockwood Legacy, Juliette is a merging of their creative energies. Pauletti, an Easterner of Italian descent, is an accomplished musician with an eye for art and design. Williamson, a Texan from a long line of hardheaded Scots, knows the world of the Lockwoods like the back of her hand.“We decided to write under a pen name because neither one of us by ourselves could have created Kate, Jenny, Mandy, and their world,” says Pauletti. “Juliette is a little bit of us both. We want to be her when we grow up.”
“Patti teases me that I just don’t want to own up to writing a book with romance in it,” Williamson adds, “but that’s not true. I like the Lockwood women and the way they tackle everything life throws at them. And before we’re done, they’ll be ducking a lot. I imagine coming into the office every day and saying, ‘Okay Juliette, what’s going to happen now?’ She tells us, and we get it down on paper.”

You can currently get the first book in this series Free on Amazon!

Book one, Langston's Daughters is now FREE for kindle!

Review! The Demon's Deadline By Tori Centanni

The Demon’s Deadline
 By Tori Centanni

The Demons Deadline

My Review 4 stars
Nicki finds herself employed by a tight lipped demon that expects her to jump regardless of time or day. Finding herself delivering mysterious envelopes to many people who while her showing up at their door with them, don't seem all that happy with her deliveries. Which for a teenage girl trying to finish high school is bad enough, but curiosity gets the best of her when one of these individuals tries to banish her with holy water and salt.

While she is busy helping her demon boss, her regular life seems to unravel, her boyfriend and best friend are upset with her, her father is out of town due to an ailing mother, and her mother passed only a few years back in a car crash. Nicki finds herself struggling to balance all of this in her life and her demon boss seems like the perfect distraction.

This is a great, quick read, I would have liked a longer story! The characters were well developed and the story flowed very well. The end leaves you to believe that the story doesn't end here.

About the Book:
Nicki almost died in the car accident. Instead she was offered a deal. Now she works for the demon Azmos, delivering his mysterious envelopes all over town. Only her boyfriend Cam knows the truth about her after-school job—Cam, who’s (thankfully) as understanding as he is gorgeous and smart. Nicki’s never had Cam’s bold ambitions; her only talent is guessing the killer in a horror movie. All she wants is to graduate high school, marry Cam someday, and live happily ever after… but lately her work for the demon’s pulling her into deeper danger. Danger that threatens her life and also the bonds that matter most to her. Her best friend Melissa, whom she’s forced to lie to. Her grieving father. And Cam. But is it even possible to free herself from the contract that saved her life? And what if she did manage to untangle herself from the arcane world forever — without it, what kind of life does Nicki have left? Once you’ve seen death and darkness, once you know that magic is real, how can you ever go back to being a normal teenager? It’s finally time Nicki faced her own demons….

Review! Compedium

May 9, 2015

Compendium
by Alia Luria

Compendium

Welcome to the tour for Compendium by Alia Luria! This is a sci-fantasy novel that is adult but clean and appropriate for young adult readers.

                                         My Review 4.5 stars!

This book is best left not to judge by the first chapters. Like all good things the further you go in the story the more it all makes sense. Compedium is not a simple book, but it's not so complex that you won't understand it. It's a Sci-fy meet fantasy and the author has created a world that during the best of days is one I would love to visit.

Mia is a complex girl struggling with her purpose on top of wanting to be with her father. She is sensitive to the emotions around her and like any girl her age really struggles with finding her sense of purpose and place in the world.

The mystery adds to the story and leaves you questioning what pieces are hiding and how they will all come together, much is revealed by the end of the book, but it does leave you with an ending that hints there is more story to come.

I was sent a hard copy of this book for my review, and I have to say that I will be adding it to my treasure section of books! I loved this story and the depth of it, and I sincerely hope there is more to come of Mia's story!

About the book:

On the heavily forested planet of Lumin, the Network has slept, dormant, for over six hundred cycles. Only a select few remember that it resides beneath the crust of the planet, waiting, and for them, the battle for Lumin’s future has raged in the shadows.

When Mia Jayne’s path crosses with an ancient volume in the Archives of the Order of Vis Firmitas, this ancient battle moves from the shadows into the light. Compendium opens up a world of knowledge, and, for the first time since arriving at the Order, Mia has the key to reclaim the freedom she has lost. To do so, she must choose between her conscience and her heart. Conceived against an ailing world of fantastical beauty where long-lost technology tips the balance between extinction and survival, Mia must remember that there is always a choice, and that makes all the difference.

Review! Danielle-Claude Ngontang MBA Stages and Thieves

May 8, 2015

Danielle-Claude Ngontang MBA
Stages & Thieves

stages and thieves One fateful July morning forever changed the lives of Sémya Slotin and her best friend Polliannah Guryev. My Review 4.0 stars!
Stages and Thieves is book 5 in the Semya Slotin mystery series and is not only the book in the series during her pregnancy and all she goes through with it, but also of finally meeting her birth father. But more then that it is an incredible mystery. A mystery that revolves around a painting that upon seeing it, she discovers it looks like her. As well as the beginning of her unraveling the mystery of the disappearance of her beloved Vincent that was assumed dead in an explosion.
During this book Semya and her best friend Polliannah spend a lot of time at odd's. Both mourning the loss of men in their lives and struggling with how to help each other move on from the loss. Polliannah spends much of  the story torn on how to handle her changing relationship with Jim, who has been her rock and her support through all of her bad days. On top of the relationship change, she also struggles with how to be back home among her family and all the turmoil that came with her leaving home.
Mystery stories are perhaps one of my favorite to read and this one did not disappoint and leaves you with an ending knowing that the story will continue into the next book.
